THE WIND, IN THE EVENING (Il vento, di sera)
a film by Andrea Adriatico
An atrocious political crime is the starting point of a reflection upon human implications of a sudden death: an unintentional and unexpected desertion. We're weakly hanging by the thread of life: "A little breath of wind it's enough to sweep us away" (B.M. Koltès). From the protagonist's point of view, the wind sweeping away his love and upsetting his life coincides exactly with an act of violence that strongly affects the social and political life of the entire country. For a night, the focus of attention moves from a famous man's death to a common man's death which is going to be soon forgotten. The protagonist's homosexuality is a way of life avoiding any stereotype: a "commonplace" choice. And this normality makes the pain even closer: it's a pain on the border between public life and private life, where the story of a loss set in a "normal" family could run along predictable paths, until the political theme of the "civil unions" for gay people.
